Burnham

Burnham-on-Crouch is a historical, riverside town, often referred to as the 'Cowes of the East Coast' due to the popularity of sailing in the area. In August during 'Burnham Week' sailing enthusiasts converge from all over the country on the 15 mile stretch of water from the town to the open sea. The riverside walk has numerous nautical attractions and the quayside is lined with beautiful old houses. The town centre is well served with convenience stores and interesting shops. Burnham-on-Crouch has a range of excellent pubs and restaurants and there is a reliable and cheap taxi service.

Mangapps Railway Museum, within a few minutes walk, has a demonstration line with steam and diesel locomotives. In nearby Bradwell-on-Sea, St Peter's on the Wall is a fine example of a 7th Century Saxon Church. The sea walls around the Dengie Peninsula offer picturesque walks and bird watching is a popular pastime.
